You are invited to attend this Public Information Meeting where you can learn about and provide feedback on the draft Northwest Secondary Plan. Secondary Plans are used to comprehensively plan for large developable areas in the City by providing future land use designations and policies to guide long-term community development. Join us to share your thoughts! Please note, this is not a statutory meeting. A statuary public meeting will be scheduled for a future date.

Meeting Overview

This meeting will focus on the draft Secondary Plan policy, zoning, and accompanying schedules. Final drafts of available background studies will also be discussed, with representatives from the City’s Planning, Building and Development department in attendance to present and answer questions of attendees.

Proposed Secondary Plan

The City is planning for significant growth over the next 30 years, and Secondary Plans, including Northwest, will allow the City to comprehensively and efficiently plan for new communities. This includes examining such topics as transportation planning, municipal servicing (water, wastewater and stormwater management), natural environment, land use compatibility, and fiscal impacts.

In September of 2025, Council endorsed a preferred land use plan for further study. Consultants have made use of the preferred concept to complete their studies and analysis. Planning staff have been preparing a Draft Secondary Plan policy and Schedules, having been informed by, and considering, the findings and recommendations of the various consultant studies.

The Secondary Plan is being carried out in accordance with current City policies and those of the Provincial Planning Statement (2024), and requirements of the Planning Act.
