Your involvement is invaluable!

To support the Environmental Sustainability pillar of our Strategic Plan, the City of Niagara Falls has launched an Urban Forest Management Plan project. This initiative will help us better understand our local trees and their significance to our community. It will also provide essential information needed to create new tree and forest policies and initiatives for long-term sustainability.

The first phase of the Urban Forest Management Plan involves a Forest Inventory, which will assess the condition of trees in both the urban and rural areas of Niagara Falls. The inventory will utilize a system of over 200 randomly generated plots based on different land uses, ensuring a scientifically accurate representation of the city's trees.

The City of Niagara Falls has hired forestry consultant BioForest, part of Lallemand Plant Care, to carry out the fieldwork portion of the study. One BioForest field crew, consisting of two staff members, will measure trees, shrubs, and vegetation. The data will be input into forest modelling software called i-Tree Eco v6.

Permission letters have been sent to residents of Niagara Falls whose properties have been randomly selected for one of the plots. If you have received a letter, we kindly ask for your support in helping us build the Forest Inventory.
