10 Parks Announced for 2019 Operation Awesome Playgrounds!

The City is excited to announce that 10 playgrounds at neighbourhood parks will be replaced in 2019! These park playgrounds are:

  • Kitchener Park (5491 Lewis Av)
  • Alexander Park (5421 Alexander Cr)
  • Althea Park (6162 Althea St)
  • Brookfied Park (7053 Brookfield Av)
  • Corwin Park (6475 Walter Av)
  • Alpine Park (7830 Alpine Dr)
  • Fern Park (7516 Fern Av)
  • Glengate Park (4190 Pettit Av)
  • Meadowvale Park (7148 Briarwood Av)
  • Theresa Park (2864 Gail Av)

The playgrounds were selected based on the 10 year infrastructure assessment and the desire to geographically spread the playground replacements City-wide.

All park improvement projects will include new playground equipment, accessible artificial turf safety surfacing along with new benches, picnic tables, bike racks, signage and landscaping. Construction is anticipated to occur through summer to late Fall 2019 (weather dependent).

In addition to playground equipment, City Council has funded the redevelopment of a premium tennis/pickleball and multi-purpose basketball courts at Glengate Park and Theresa Park.

  • Work is Complete but Grass Needs to Grow

The new playgrounds are done and it's been a hot and dry summer. The grass seed that was placed around the playgrounds has suffered badly. The contractors will be back to the playgrounds this fall to re-seed. If all goes well with weather we will see nice new grass next spring.
