Parks are the heart of our neighbourhoods, so we are accelerating the City's program to refresh our play structures!

10 Parks Announced for 2018 Operation Awesome Playgrounds!
The City is excited to announce the 10 playgrounds that will be replaced in 2018:

  • AJ McKinley Park
  • Grey Robinson Park
  • John N. Allan Park
  • Wilson Park
  • Chippawa West Park
  • Carolyn Park
  • Mount Forest Park
  • Shirley Park
  • Lind Sommerville Park
  • Russell Park

The playgrounds were selected based on the 10-year infrastructure assessment and the desire to geographically spread the playground replacements across the City.

All park improvement projects will include new playground equipment, accessible artificial turf safety surfacing, along with new benches, picnic tables, bike racks, signage and landscaping. Construction is anticipated to occur through Summer-Fall 2018.

Construction is nearly complete at the remaining 2017 play structures which will be officially opened on June 9, 2018. Everyone is welcome to join Mayor Jim Diodati for light refreshments at each park on his ribbon cutting tour:

  • Glenview Park (10 AM)
  • Millennium Trail - NF Lions Legacy Pathway (10:45 AM)
  • Stamford Lions Park (11:30 AM)
  • Gustavus Munro Park (12:15 PM)
  • Westfield Park (1 PM)
  • Prince Edward Park (1:45 PM)

And be sure to join us for our community celebration with bouncy castles, face painting, and more at Prince Edward Park to cap off the tour.

In 2017 the following play structures were completed as part of Operation Awesome Playgrounds:

  • Solar Park
  • Ontario Park
  • FJ Miller Park
  • Royal Manor Park
  • Chippawa Lions Park

    Great news, kids! We're on track to complete all 10 new playgrounds by Fall 2018. See the list below for details.

    As an important safety reminder, while under construction playground equipment is closed to the public and should not be used until all construction work has been completed.

  • WonderFalls Pass: Residents Save and Help All Kids Play.

    The 10 playgrounds opening in 2018 will feature an additional accessible element provided by proceeds from The WonderFalls Pass.

    In conjunction with the annual Sleep Cheap Charities Reap event, the WonderFalls Pass provides local residents with the opportunity to visit 10 of Niagara Falls tourist attractions for only $10.00 a person.
    Since 2015, this initiative has raised nearly $70,000 with the proceeds directed towards improving the condition and accessibility of parks and playgrounds in Niagara Falls.

  • Winter 2018 Construction Update

    Due to weather and site conditions construction had to break for the winter. New playground equipment was installed at Ontario Park, FJ Miller Park, Royal Manor Park, Prince Edward Park, Stamford Lions Park and Glenview Park. We are monitoring site conditions and we expect to start early this spring to finish off final works at the parks in progress along with commencing work at Gustavus Munro Park and Westfield Park. It is anticipated that all projects will be completed spring 2018.

  • Royal Manor Park Play Structure Opening

    The City of Niagara Falls held the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Royal Manor Park Playground on Sunday, November 26, 2017.

    The new playground includes accessible play structures with artificial turf safety surface, new swings, seating and paved walkways. The playground has been themed for Canada 150 celebrations.

    This playground opening is part of “Operation Awesome Playgrounds”, an initiative Mayor Jim Diodati announced at his State of the City Address in March. As part of this initiative, the City’s program to refresh play structures is being accelerated, with 10 parks being replaced in 2017. Royal Manor Park Playground is the fifth playground to be opened under this exciting initiative!   • Operation Awesome Playgrounds Construction Update

    Construction will be commencing soon at Royal Manor Park and Prince Edward Park and then followed by Westfield Park, Gustavus Munro Park, Stamford Lions Park and Glenview Park. The contract work will be carried out for the City of Niagara Falls by Stevensville Lawn Service Inc. Please be advised ,that once construction starts, affected park areas will be closed to the public.


  • Ontario Park Playground Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

    Niagara Falls, ON, October 2, 2017 – The City of Niagara Falls is excited to announce the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Ontario Park Playground. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 5:00 pm at 5300 Ontario Street, Niagara Falls.

    Built in 1992, the playground at Ontario Park was identified as one of the oldest playgrounds in the City’s park system. The playground had poor accessibility due to a sand safety surface and was recommended for a complete replacement.

    The new playground includes an accessible play structure with artificial turf safety surface, new swings, and seating.

    This playground opening is part of “Operation Awesome Playgrounds”, an initiative Mayor Jim Diodati announced at his State of the City Address in March.   • F.J. Miller Park Playground Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

    The City of Niagara Falls is excited to announce the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the F.J. Miller Park Playground. The ceremony will take place on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 4:00 pm at 7018 Valiant Street, Niagara Falls. Residents are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

    Built in 1995, the playground at F.J. Miller Park was identified as one of the oldest playgrounds in the City’s park system. The playground had poor accessibility due to a sand safety surface and was recommended for a complete replacement.

    The new playground includes an accessible play structure with artificial turf safety surface, new swings, seating and shade trees.

  • Chippawa Lions Park Improvement Project (Phase 1) Ribbon Cutting and Community Celebration!

    The City of Niagara Falls invites you to join the Ribbon Cutting and Community Celebration for Chippawa Lions Park Improvement Project on Thursday, August 3rd, 2017. The opening ceremony and ribbon cutting will be held at 4:00 pm with the community celebration continuing until 6:00 pm.

    Chippawa Lions Park is a 13 acre Community Park in the south end of Niagara Falls (Chippawa). The park has provided a wide variety of recreational opportunities and special events for many years. The Chippawa Lions Club, are the custodians of the park. As a result of age and use this busy park was in need of improvements. Staff worked with the Chippawa Lions Club to develop an updated master plan for the park. The current park improvements, in Phase 1 include:

    • Removal of the current playground and replacement with an accessible playground
    • Removal of wading pool and replacement with an accessible splash pad
    • Removal of damaged tennis courts and reconstruction of new double tennis courts
    • Construction of basketball play area
    • Improvements to the skate park
    • Improvements to park infrastructure (storm water, sub-surface drainage, and electrical)
    • Tree plantings to help offset the removal of ash trees

    The next phases of the master plan will include resurfacing the exercise pathway, renovations to the senior ball diamond, a new picnic shelter, parking improvements and tree planting.
