Force Airbnb Listers to be licensed.

by Jenlynn, over 2 years ago

There are a lot of people listing their homes on Airbnb who are avoiding being zoned for lodging or getting a proper BNB business license subject to Public Health inspections. These houses cause more cars parked on the street. They cause more strangers in the neighbourhoods. And the home owners care very little for how they affect anyone. Forcing these people to license or shut down will bring more money in. It will allow the city to regulate where these are and how many there are. Right now its an unlicensed and unregulated free for all.

    Asphalt trials

by AESS, over 2 years ago

I just read in the Star about an innovative style of asphalt paving compactor that was designed by a professor at Carlton University.  Here's the link to the article: https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2018/03/09/pothole-problem-can-be-solved-carleton-professor-says.html I recall also reading something from a professor in Kingston that was talking about the lack of longevity in the road surfaces today that seems to be linked to the use of recycled motor oil in the asphalt mixes of late.  Here is the link: https://www.northernontariobusiness.com/industry-news/transportation/bad-asphalt-is-paving-the-way-for-disaster-says-researcher-371211 I was wondering if there has been any consideration of these concepts in the City?  It seems to... Mandatory shovelling of sidewalks

by 1Niagaran, over 2 years ago

Why is it that we in this fair city of Niagara Falls, Ontario are not able to shovel our sidewalks? Are we really that lazy that we can't make it mandatory to shovel our own sidewalks? Progressive cities around the world make it the law to clear sidewalks. Don't give me the excuse that we have a lot of elderly citizens. So do progressive cities. I have neighbours that are young, able individuals that don't bother doing their sidewalk. I also have a neighbour that is not able to do her sidewalk and I gladly do it for her. Enough... Multi use Courts

by raymattatall, almost 3 years ago

    Just an idea

how about basketball nets designed like this with built in hockey nets so the kids can get some multi use out of these courts or even the adults.  I have seen this done in a few parks in St. Catharines. Multi use courts are the way to go not all kids or adults like the same sports you could play hockey, soccer, handball, lacrosse anything that requires a net.

Offer free passport services to US residents at bordertowns

by davidpmossop, almost 3 years ago

    Hello,

I am a resident of Niagara Falls and just recently, and surprisingly, I was imposed with the infamous Niagara Falls Development Fee (NFDF).  At least that's what my server called it.  As I was thoroughly disgusted with how this hidden tax has been implemented, I got to thinking of alternative income generators for Canadian border cities.  I also recently heard that 8 out of 10 American citizens don't visit Canada because they don't have a passport.  I was absolutely dumbfounded by this statistic.  I immediately thought ... why doesn't the Niagara Falls municipal government work with the US Niagara... Tiny home communities

by davidpmossop, almost 3 years ago

    Hello,

I would like to develop a tiny home community.  I would like to suggest Niagara Falls building codes and zoning by-laws are current with today's people and their needs and demands.  This is a growing industry, one that could be a huge draw to our region, not just for full-time residents but also as a tourist draw.

    Regards,

    David Mossop

    Electronic Delivery of Property Taxes

by SDT, almost 3 years ago

Please update the options/method for receiving property tax notices to include an option for delivery by email. Both of the 2 previous cities I lived in provided that option for residents. Thank you.

Make the Michigan Central Railway Bridge into Niagara's version of the High Line Park (Niagara SkyPark)

by cshunters, almost 3 years ago

The City owns the bridge which seems to be in good repair. While money has been set aside to demolish it, it sits waiting for a purpose. Let's consider making the Bridge into Niagara's version of NYC's High Line Park. The Niagara "SkyPark" would be unique for both residents and visitors alike on both sides of the border and would help draw in visitors to parts of each City that need redevelopment. Imagine tying in the Olympic Torch Run Legacy Trail to the park. It could be a driver to help revitalize Queen and Park St. Business districts and help... Continue reading

    Barriers/Bollards along Niagara Parkway

by Vreynoso, about 3 years ago

I would like to suggest that the City should install Barriers/Bollards along Niagara Parkway especially where tourists/residents gather to view The Falls.

Barriers/Bollards offer safer environment, traffic guidance, protection (more so with sad events that have happened in Europe, e.g. London, Paris), access control, etc.

Hoping that the City would be proactive in protecting the tourists and residents who enjoy the stroll along The Falls.  Let's not wait for mishaps to happen.

    "Kidzania" in the City

by Vreynoso, about 3 years ago

Many families with young kids come to visit the City.  These families would stay longer than a day or 2 if the City has more tourism attraction for kids.  There really isn't much for kids to do in the City, except mainly to walk around Clifton Hills and see The Falls, or Marineland

"Kidzania" is coming to Toronto, date unknown. That attraction would be fantastic for Niagara Falls.  Great business for hotels, restaurants and other enterprises if families would stay longer than 2 days in the City. website www.kidzania.com

The City already missed out on the "Aquarium".

    Please add more... Continue reading
