Well Lit walkways & pathways

by Vreynoso,

We love to go for a night stroll along the Falls but there are spots or areas that make us feel unsafe.

The City can look into adding more light posts or pathway lights along the Falls specially at the North end almost across the American Falls.

The same situation at the pathway to/from the big  parking lot going to/coming from  Queen Vctoria Park (west side of the road). The pathway is dark. There sre no lamp posts or lighting system  to make the pathway safe for walking.

Well lit walkways and pathways will deter crime and make people love to stroll and feel safe at night.

My husband and I are retired residents of the City of Niagara Falls for two years now. We started walking along Niagara Parkway since we love to take-in and breathe-in the negative ions from the mist for health reasons. We walked on the same pathway mentioned by Vreynoso above; which is the pathway above the main road, in order to avoid the traffic of people along the falls especially on weekends, which could be overwhelming; and to avoid being wet by the mist. We walked last Sunday (Oct. 20/2019). We walked at night as well from Victoria Place parking to the big parking lot below Mt. Carmel, so our first comment was: “how dark it was on that long path.” I said, I will find a way to reach the city via the Niagara Falls City website to mention this same problem about the physical safety hazard of being mugged or tripping on something, falling and hurting ourselves. I was glad to find that there is already a notification or raised concern to the city regarding the same problem. Light posts along that stretch of the pathway above the Niagara Parkway should not be too difficult to construct there. Please DO NOT WAIT FOR AN ACCIDENT OR INCIDENT TO HAPPEN BEFORE THE CITY REACT OR LISTEN. The City could be made liable for accidents especially after some citizens already tried to reach you and raise our concerns. The accident liability expenses could be a lot more than putting up light posts along the pathway. Thank you for your anticipated assistance.

This is a great idea. Increasing lighting in parks and walk ways will also reduce crime and other activity. The Shriners Woodlot Nature Park in Mount Carmel should also have lighting installed. It is completely black in there at night.

Thanks so much for your thoughts! The Falls are stunning at night and as fellow residents we are so happy that you our out enjoying our world wonder! As the Niagara Parks Commission is responsible for the roadways and lighting in Queen Victoria Park and all along the parkway, we are passing your suggestion along to our colleagues there.
