The Sidewalk to Nowhere
I have lived in Chippawa my whole life. The residents love to walk and bicycle. There used to be a bike / walking path on the east side of Portage Road that ran from Chippawa to the Dufferin Islands area. This path was destroyed many years age when a watermain project took place. It was never replaced.
Presently, a short stretch of sidewalk is in place on the west side of Portage Road from Norton Street to the entrance of Marineland where it abruptly ends. Cyclists and walkers are forced to use the roadway if they wish to continue. This is a very busy road and a dangerous option.
While cutting through Marineland property is an option it is frowned upon by them and very difficult during summer months.
My suggestion is that the City of Niagara Falls, the Region and Marineland work together to connect the sidewalk / pathway from Chippawa to the sidewalk further up Portage Road past Marineland.
We are encouraging adults and children to get out and enjoy or community. Let's fix this little dead end sidewalk and eliminate a serious safety issue.
