Silence the Trains

by webbfire2004,

Greetings, I moved into the Fernwood subdivision just over a year ago and had I known the rail crossing at Lundys lane and Garner road were as active as they are throughout the night especially and that trains sound their air horns at both crossings I would never have moved there. I know there are level crossings about one kilometer east where they do not sound their horns. There are hundreds of homes and families here in the Fernwood subdivision so I think it is time arrangements were made to silence the trains at these crossings as well. When open areas are zoned for residential and then developed adjustments like this should be taken into consideration at the same time.

Thank you, Patrick Webb

Thanks for your comment! City staff are aware of this issue and are working towards a solution. There is a federally mandated process that the City must strictly follow with CN Rail for changes to be made to any crossing. City staff along with their consultant will work with CN staff to determine whether anti-whistling would be appropriate at this location according to safety and compliance with the regulations set out by Transport Canada. The approval for a consultant will likely go to Council in May. Should you have further detailed questions, please contact Marzenna Carrick, Senior Manager of Traffic and Parking Services, Transportation Services 905-356-7521 Ext.5204.
