Hi, I'm one of the houses listed as getting the lateral replaced. Will this replacement have a backflo preventor? Or is that something I have to get installed myself?
Thanks

Thank you for your question. Lateral
replacements are being performed from the new mainline sewer to the property
line and do not include back-flow prevention systems. Back-flow
prevention devices are typically installed on the sanitary lateral in the
basement of the house, which means this is the responsibility of the homeowner.
If
you are considering the installation of a back-flow prevention device, I would
recommend having a look at the City’s WRAP program at the following website: https://niagarafalls.ca/living/environment/wrap.aspx

Thank you for your question! The sewer
replacement project will install new sewers on Harvard Avenue from Wiltshire
Boulevard to approximately McGill Street and on the North leg of Brian Crescent
from Harvard Avenue to approximately 85m east and the South leg of Brian
crescent to approximately 55m east. As part of the sewer replacements,
new private sanitary laterals will be installed from the new sewers to the
property line. Properties on Brian Crescent that will see their laterals
replaced are as follows:
North Leg of Brian Crescent:
-6910, 6914, 6918, 6945, 6949
South Leg of Brian Crescent:
-7169, 7163, 7166, 7160
Weeping
tiles are connected to sanitary laterals on the private side, near the building
foundation. As such, the disconnection/removal of weeping tiles is not
part of this project.
In order
to help reduce unnecessary flows in the sanitary sewer system and safeguard
against flooding in the future, homeowners that have weeping tiles connected to
their sanitary lateral are encouraged to take advantage of the City’s Weeping
Tile Removal Assistance Program (WRAP). Further information regarding
this program and how to determine if you may qualify for funding can be found
on the FAQ section of the Harvard Avenue Sanitary Sewer Replacement “Let’s
Talk” web page: https://letstalk.niagarafalls.ca/harvard-avenue/faqs#1739
, and the City’s website: https://www.niagarafalls.ca/living/environment/wrap.aspx.
