Beck Road Bridge Replacement
Consultation has concluded
The City of Niagara Falls has retained Ellis Engineering to design the replacement of Beck Road Bridge. It is expected that the project will be tendered before the end of 2020 with construction planned to begin in January 2021, subject to the approval of sufficient capital funding. The duration of the project is expected to last approximately 12 months.
Located south of Lyons Creek Road, the existing bridge was built in 1952. After a biennial bridge inspection, the bridge was determined to be in poor condition, and in need of replacement. Deterioration includes large concreate spalls, wide concrete cracks, and severe scour on the concrete piles and abutments.
The new bridge is designed for a service life of 75 years. The works consist of replacing the narrow three-span, 32m-long concrete rigid frame bridge in poor condition with a new single-span, 32m-long concrete box girder bridge.
In order to accommodate the new vertical and horizontal roadway geometry for the new bridge, the posted speed limit will be changed from 70 km/h to 50 km/h on Beck Road from Lyons Creek Road to approximately 300m south of the bridge.
Road Closure: Beck Road will be closed at the bridge for the duration of construction. A detour route will be planned and setup as part of the contractor’s traffic control and management plan prior to the start of construction.
